COPPER CUP HOCKEY TOURNAMENT RULES
- Games are 3 – 14 minute run time periods. Last 3 minutes of game are stop time if within 2 goals. Penalties are 3 minutes, 2 minutes if playing stop time.
- Slap shots are permitted.
- USA Hockey* senior men’s rules enforced (*not a USA Hockey sanctioned event)
- Fighting results in immediate expulsion from the game and review by tournament director for possible tournament expulsion.
- Major penalties or 3 minor penalties will be an immediate expulsion from game. Major penalties will be reviewed by the tournament officials and could result in expulsion from tournament.
- All decisions of the tournament director are final and not negotiable.
- All players must fit into the criteria of law enforcement, fire, corrections or first responder/military to be eligible for play, excluding goalies. Any exceptions will have to be pre-authorized by the tournament director prior to tournament games. Any team using ineligible players will forfeit the game that the player plays in. The other team will be credited with a 4-0 win.
- No player can play on two different rosters.
- Rosters will be set at a maximum of 15 players and 2 goalies.
- All players are required to check-in with tournament officials prior to first game. ID’s will be required.
- If A and B Brackets are combined the highest seeded teams will compete in the A Championship rounds.
- Criteria: 2 points for a win, 1 for a tie, 0 for a loss make up point total. The tie breakers are, head to head, goal differential (GF – GA = GD) 4 goal maximum differential credited per game, goals against, goals for, least penalty minutes then coin flip.
- Ties in playoff games will be decided by a 3 player shoot-out. If the game is still tied, then alternating players shoot until tie is broken. No repeat shooters until roster is exhausted.
- Individuals participating in this tournament agree to review the tournament rules and relinquish any liability against the host arena, Law Enforcement Torch Run, Special Olympics Michigan, the tournament director and the organizers of this tournament.
