_2011 Tournament Recap
The 2011 Copper Cup Hockey Tournament took place on March 25, 26 and 27, at Patterson Ice Center in Grand Rapids. The tournament, now considered "international" featured 18 teams from across Michigan and Illinois and Sault, Canada.The total is not yet determined, but it is shaping up to be the best year ever for our donation to the Law Enforcement Torch Run benefitting Special Olympics Michigan. Special thanks to Patterson Ice Center manager Tom Mehney and his staff, The Home Depot, Jim Schwerin of Schmohz's Brewery, Shannon Simon of Forest Hills Financial, Jason Baker of Target and all the players who participated in the tournament. Tournament Benefits Special Olympics - Michigan
The proceeds from the 2011 Copper Cup Hockey Tournament benefit the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Michigan. In the past couple of years, the tournament raised thousands of dollars for LETR, and this year expectations are set higher. LETR raises money and awareness for Special Olympics so over 12,000 special athletes can compete in a variety of events at no cost to them or their families. 2011 Tournament Champs
After the round robin games, the match-up for the championship in the Gentlemen's Division was Rockford Fire 413 Hockey against Cheboygan FOP. The B Division had two time defending champ Kensington Valley Pride playing Oakland County. The A Division pitted Sault Police vs Action Target.

_2011 Gentleman's Division Champs - Rockford Fire 413 Hockey

Rockford (3) vs Cheboygan (2)
The Gentlemen's Division Championship game started off fast with Cheboygan scoring first only to see Rockford answer a minute later. The game continued back and forth with Rockford Fire getting the go ahead goal with 48 seconds left. The goal was scored by Joe Marella assisted by Bill Donato. Cheboygan had a chance to even the score with a breakaway in the final seconds, but the Rockford goalie came up big to preserve the victory. Final score Rockford 3, Cheboygan 2.

For third straight year, Kensington Valley Pride brought home the B Division crown with a hard fought victory over Oakland County. The game was fast paced and tied late in the third period. Matt Calus scored the game winner with Curt Russell notching an empty netter to seal the deal. Final score Kensington 6, Oakland 4.

In the A Division title game, the Sault Police brought an undefeated round robin record into the game against a 2-1 Action Target, whose only loss was to the Sault the night before. Action Target struck first in the game, but Sault countered with 2 goals. Action Target evened the score with 1 minute left in the first period. The second period was scoreless and the championship was coming down to one period. After the teams traded goals, Brad Baber of Sault scored the game winner with 2:07 remaining. Action Target had some great chances to tie the game, but Sault goalie Chris Chiappetta made some great stops. The final score was 4 to 3.
